Our passion creates unique practices that make a dramatic difference that you’ll taste in every bite. Our focus starts with applications such as a trellis system, similar to that seen in vineyards, and continues right through to harvest, sorting, and shipping. In fact, our apple and cherry trees are picked up to five times so that fruit can be left until it reaches ideal picking condition.  

Quality testing and sorting begins in the field and doesn’t end until the fruit is headed to the store. We apply a distinct series of steps to fruit production, ensuring that every box deserves our premium Gee Whiz label…a clear indication that our customers receive the freshest, best-tasting fruit possible.

TRELLIS TREE-TRAINING SYSTEM

Our comprehensive trellis system drives growth into the fruit, not the tree. Perfect spacing and directional growth of tree limbs allow ideal light and air circulation to flow around developing fruit. Growth that usually ends up in unnecessary limb growth redirects into the fruit, capturing the nutrients that create our unmatched taste profile.

WATER-NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT 

Commonly-used spray irrigation results in uneven watering application that reduces the flavor of the ripened fruit. Our orchardists invest energy in the scientific assessment of tree health, continuously monitoring multiple factors including moisture levels. This attention-to-detail ensures that the precise water-nutrient balance occurs with each varietal fruit block using drip irrigation systems. 

BLOSSOM AND LEAF THINNING

Indiscriminate application of chemical spray stresses the trees and ultimately harms fruit quality. We blossom thin every tree by hand, a dedicated effort that starts with the blossoms and comes through to the taste buds. Kinder to the trees, kinder to the environment.

SHADE CLOTH AND NETTING

We place various protective fabrics above and below our fruit. Although labor-intensive, the benefits far outweigh the cost. In our apple orchards, shade cloth filters direct sunlight and reduces UV intensity. It also blocks wind, hail, birds and other pests, similar to a greenhouse. Yet the softened sunlight reaches Extenday material on the ground below, creating an ideal reflection captured by our fruit. Our cherries benefit from the same light-enhancing material between the rows, and thrive with netting stretched above their canopy. Netting offers protection from pests while still allowing ample light to reach the Extenday ground product. The consistent, protected environment allows our fruit to color and ripen into an unmatched consumer experience. 

Our industry-leading practices use less spray and water than other producers, yet we produce double the yield on the same acreage. We prove that world-class flavor concentrated in stunning fruit can be delivered, all while protecting the environment.
